Courtney Edwards graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in May of 2013, with honors, and is a member of the Order of the Coif. During law school she was an active member of the board for the student bar association, the Potter Law Club, and a member of Wyoming Law Students for Equal Justice. She presented oral argument before the Wyoming Supreme Court on a search and seizure issue as a student lawyer in the Prosecution Clinic and successfully gained asylum status for a refugee from Djibouti as part of her course work in the International Human Rights Clinic. She also assisted low income families in executing estate planning documents through the Trusts & Estates practicum.

After graduating, Courtney began to intern with the District Attorney’s office in Eagle, Colorado. From there she was hired into the role of Deputy District Attorney, handling a county court docket. Quickly, she moved up to handle felony cases. During her time with the District Attorney’s Office, Courtney acted as the prosecutorial representative on the local Access to Justice Committee as well as the Recovery Courts (DUI Court and Drug Court) in Eagle County.

Courtney has intimate knowledge and experience with the criminal justice system. She is a strong advocate for those finding themselves in the system and will provide guidance along the way. During her tenure with the DA’s office she was the prosecutor assigned to the local drug task force. She maintains good relationships with law enforcement officers and can help work with law enforcement to obtain a fair outcome for her clients.

Courtney also has strong beliefs that everyone should have equal access to justice through the courts. That means adequate assistance and representation in all types of cases, especially where family and children are involved. Courtney is committed to helping those in need by offering services to help in family law matters and estate planning.

Though Courtney may have grown up under the great blue skies of Wyoming, she is now proud to call the beautiful Vail Valley home and loves to explore all Colorado has to offer. When away from the office she enjoys camping, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and whitewater SUP with her new husband, Jamie.

In Memoriam - Judith James Carlson

ObitJCarlsonJudith James Carlson was a principal and founder of the firm. A former Family Court, Juvenile Court and Probate Court Judge, Ms. Carlson focused her practice on Family Law, Divorce and Custody, Wills, Trusts and Probate matters.

Judith James Carlson, died on her birthday January 12, 2017, surrounded by friends and family, her roses and thoughts of favorite cat Monk & favorite dog Chico-the people and things she loved at her second home in Tucson, Arizona. She passed from this life as she did everything else; in her very own way and on her very own terms and we all feel lucky for that.

Judi battled juvenile diabetes and related complications for 66 years since age 4, becoming one of the nation’s longest lived juvenile diabetics. Nothing slowed Judi down. She was a force of nature.

Judi was a true pioneer as both a lawyer and a judge, and especially inspired so many women who followed after her. Elected the youngest and first woman Judge in Washtenaw County, [Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti] Michigan history, she served as Chief Juvenile Court and Probate Court Judge in the 1980s. The daughter of union organizer and UAW top administrative aide Frank James (Anne), she was a tireless worker for social justice.
